dozen,score,hundred的五大用法

 　　dozen的意思是“一打”“十二个”，score的意思是“二十”，它们在用法上具有以下共同特点，使用时需注意：

1. 与具体数字连用时，不加复数词尾–s；若后接名词，通常也无需用介词of。若是人称代词，或名词前有指示词和物主代词(如:these，our等),则不能省略of。如：

a dozen people

a dozen sheets of paper

He had come half a dozen times to call upon his sister. 他来看望他姐姐已有六七次了。

You cannot enjoy a story if you stop half a dozen times on every page in order to look up words in the dictionary.

I cannot give you a hundred reasons for not going. 我可以给你列出一百条不去的理由。

a dozen of us

a dozen of those apples

a dozen of your eggs

be six of one and half a dozen of the other 半斤八两；差不多

下面是没有省略of 的用法：

2．Dozen，score，hundred等词前面有数词修饰时，一般不用复数。

例如：

two dozen eggs两打鸡蛋

three/five dozen pencils三/五打铅笔

three score and ten eggs

five thousand people

She had at least four hundred lovers.她至少有四百情人。

They sole three dozen copies of the magazine.他们卖了三打杂志。

We need three dozen boxes.我们需要三打箱子。

在修饰指示代词或带有指使代词的名词时，dozen等词的后面要加of：

I want three dozen of these.这东西我要三打。

注意：

some dozens of people 意为“几十个人”，而some,dozen(of) people则表示“about a dozen people”,意为“大约十来个人”。

2. 若不与具体数字连用，而是表示不确定的泛指数时，则不仅要加复数词尾-s, 而且要后接介词of，然后才能接名词。如：

dozens of times ==many times许多次

scores of years ago许多年前

scores of visitors一大批来访者

hundreds of people数百人

tens of thousands of people数万人

hundreds of thousands of people数十万人

millions of people数百万人

There were dozens of people there. 那里有许多人。

I have heard of that scores of times. 那件事我已听过很多遍了。

3. 当与a few, several, many等数目不很具体的词连用时，带不带复数词尾-s均可，但是注意：若不带复数词-s，其后的介词of可以省略；若带复数词尾-s，则其后介词of不能省略。如

several dozen(s) of eggs=several dozen eggs 几打鸡蛋

several dozen (of) pencils= several dozens of pencils 几打铅笔

4. 若其后的名词受the, these, those等特指限定词的修饰，或其后接的是us, them 这样的人称代词时，则此时必须用介词of。如：

a dozen of his friends 他的一打朋友

two dozen of them 它们中的两打

three score of these eggs 这些鸡蛋中的60只

5.dozen，score，hundred等还常与by，in等介词连用，构成固定短语。例如：

Tommy ate cookies by the dozen.

Be sold by the thousand(s)数以千计，大批大批地

By the hundred(s)数以百计；大批大批地

They are sold by the hundred.这些东西以百为单位（大批大批地）出售

The ants arrived at the picnic by the hundreds.成群的蚂蚁来到野餐的地方。

Pack them in dozens.

The birds flock together by (the) thousands.

The disease killed men by scores.这种病使大批大批的人丧生。

Pack them in dozens.把它们按打包起来。

They came in thousands.他们成千上万地涌来。
